1776 Revolutionary War Bond to Get Continental Soldiers

Revolutionary War bond signed 7 December 1776 by Generals Augustus Collins and Roger Newberry, for 3,000 pounds so that General Collins could raise a company of soldiers to fight the British. Partially printed document has "English Colony" of Connecticut crossed out, and replaced with "State" of Connecticut, before detailing that General Collins will be responsible for the repayment of the funds unless he uses it to form "his own Company, now to be raised, to join the Continental Army…" General Collins fought in the Lexington Alarm, the first battle of the Revolutionary War in Massachusetts on 19 April 1775, before forming his own company and rising to the rank of General. Document with red wax seal measures approximately 8.75" x 14". Splits starting along folds, otherwise very good plus condition.
