1778 PRINTED LETTER TO LONDON - U.S. TREATY with FRANCE & ARTICLES OF CONFEDERATION"Lettres de Londres le 18 Mars 1778"
This extremely rare American Revolutionary War document from 1778 is a printed copy of a letter sent from the King of France to the Lord Chancellor of England.
The letter printed in French announces that France now recognizes the United States of America a sovereign nation and that a Treaty of Alliance between the Kingdom of France and the United States of America now exists. The letter also defines the terms of the alliance.
This was an extremely important turn of events for the United States as they were now recognized as a sovereign nation and would soon be getting military assistance from France.
The four page document also contains the Articles of Confederation which was an agreement among the 13 original states of the Unites States of America that served as its first constitution.
The four page document is printed on a 7 x 9 inch sheet of hand-laid paper.
