Doves, like people, want a comfortable spot to raise their young.  Nesting houses/shelves provide such a spot and encourage doves to set up housekeeping in your yard.  Inside the house/shelf, the dove makes a loose nest of grass and twigs.  The female lays one or two eggs.  Incubation is between 14 to 20 days.  The female incubates during the day and the male at night.  The chicks take another 14 to 25 days in the nest.  Doves can raise up to six broods annually, so your nesting box/shelf should get plenty of use.  Make sure to place your nesting box/shelf in the shade as doves do not like full sun.
