    Description

Available is an original Revolutionary War or War of 1812 era British socket bayonet that would have been used on the legendary Brown Bess .75 caliber flintlock musket.
The overall length of the bayonet is approximately 21 ½ inches and the length of the blade itself is 17 inches.
It is marked or stamped on ricasso with a crown, the number "6", other markings that appear to have been obliterated, "MAKIN", "119", and an "8" on its side.
The socket itself is also stamped "L/5" on two lines.
There is also an L5 marking on the elbow and an arrow with on the base of the socket.
The leather and brass scabbard measures a touch less than 18 inches.
While there are some minor decorative markings on the brass, the scabbard is unmarked.
The bayonet shows some light surface oxidation (rust); primarily to the base.
The point is still very sharp and blade retains most of its silver appearance.
It is free of any significant dings or dents.
The scabbard itself is also in very good condition showing only light age.
Considering the item is well over 200 years old, it has survived remarkably well.  Please be sure to check out the large photos I have posted and judge condition for yourself.
