Description
Mourning doves are know for their quick nest building. They love man-made structures because it saves them time. Since they don't mind nesting around humans, the open design or this house, with includes rails on the front instead of a solid wall, allows for a prime opportunity to witness nature at its best. Mourning doves raise as many as six broods a year usually laying two, white eggs each time. They start nesting in the early spring and continue until late fall. In the far north, Mourning Doves may start nesting as early as March. And, in the southern states , they may begin as early as January. To lend a helping hand, you can add some twigs, grass and/or pine needles to the box.The house is made by hand using a good quality pine wood. I use only nails and screws...no glue. It is sealed with an Eco friendly sealer so as not to cause harm to the birds. The torched finish gives a decorative look to the house as well as increasing its longevity. The small, etched heart adds a warm touch. Approximate dimensions of the house are 15"x10"x6".
