Historical Massachusetts Pitcher Gov. Caleb Strong To General Brook Ca. 1816

Description

This is an interesting Massachusetts presentation pitcher, that dates to 1816,
from Caleb Strong to General Brooks. Caleb Strong 1745-1819 was a lawyer
and politician, who served as the sixth and tenth Governor of Massachusetts
between 1800 and 1807 and again from 1812-1816. The pitcher was presented
to General John Brooks 1752-1825, at the beginning of his term as governor.
Brooks was a doctor, military officer and politician and member of the
Massachusetts militia when the Revolutionary War broke out. Brooks led his
troops in the Battles of Lexington and Concord and also served under George
Washington in the New York and New Jersey campaigns of 1776. Brooks was
the 11th Massachusetts Governor from 1816, until his retirement in 1823. The
pitcher has cracks, stands 6 1/2” tall, with a 4 3/8” diameter base. Painted on
one side, “The Gratitude of Massachusetts, Follows Caleb Strong, to
Northampton.” The other side reads, “Success To Our New Governor!
General Brooks”. It’s fragile, but will be well packaged, but it can also be
picked up, I have a small shop just off Rt. 95 in Southern Rhode Island.
