    Description

An original autograph promissory note in the hand of WILLIAM HULL, dated Rutland, Vermont, September 3, 1812. This may be the same WILLIAM HULL [1753-1825] of Massachusetts, who was forced to surrender Fort Detroit to the British in the War of 1812. The note is written almost a month after the surrender, and may have been written on his way home to Massachusetts. He was a native of Connecticut, and an officer in the Revolutionary War, a friend of Nathan Hale. He had been appointed the Governor of the Michigan Territory in 1805, and was in command at Detroit when the war started. Needs further research,.... I could find no record of another William Hull at this time, and the signature of the General is almost identical.....One page, size 4" x 6 1/2", watermarked laid paper, folds, very good condition ......Guaranteed original document......00 shipping.....
